Ex-Leeds Ace Linked with Return Amid Injury Crisis
Following injuries to key midfielders, Leeds United is in a difficult position. Captain Ethan Ampadu has had a serious knee ligament injury and is expected to miss out until 2025, whereas Ilia Gruev has also been ruled out for months undergoing knee surgery after getting injured in a recent match against Norwich City.
Daniel Farke, the club’s manager, sees the free agent market as a way to remedy the issue of the squad’s depth, saying, “If it’s a long-term injury, it’s our duty to be aware of available options”.
This may include signing experienced midfielder Jake Livermore who came on loan to Elland Road back in 2011. The 34-year-old has not been contracted after he separated from Watford this summer and is seemingly fit enough to play having 244 appearances in the Championship and 196 in the Premier League.
Though it might take Livermore some time before he is back to full match fitness, the intervening international break could be the best time for Leeds to sign him so as to enhance their undermanned midfield during this trying period.
