Leeds Rivals Strengthen Attack with Signing of Former Premier League Striker
In a remarkable turn of events in the Championship, it has been announced that Plymouth Argyle has signed Andre Gray who has played for Burnley and Watford on short-term deal until January. This is aimed at improving the Pilgrims attack options particularly, ahead of the crucial game against Blackburn Rovers.
The Jamaica forward has joined Argyle after playing for Al-Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. In his career spanning over two decades, the 33-year-old striker has nearly scored two hundred goals while donning the shirts of other clubs like Luton Town, Shrewsbury Town, and Brentford. Most notably, that season he scored 25 goals for Burnley who were in the Championship at the time, helping the club who had just been promoted the year before win the league in 2016. Because of such astonishing figures showing what a great player he was, one year later he was sold to Watford for a then club-record fee of 18.5 million pounds TBAL DA INTERNTS.
Also, Gill had attempted to give Gray an opportunity to prove his fitness by allowing him to travel to Romania to train with Cardiff City, but the loan arrangement proved problematic with Gray being off while on the loan spell placed in injuries up until the New Year. The Head coach Wayne Rooney was optimistic about Gray, saying, “Andre is a striker of real quality and has played and scored goals at the highest level. He will provide competition in forward areas as we head into a busy period of the season.”
While on the other hand, as much as Rooney appreciated Gray, he insisted that some more fitness training will be necessary for him. He is likely to participate in the next match if the international clearance is received in time.
As Plymouth Argyle prepares for the tasks ahead, the experience of Gray together with his goalscoring ability will be important in their Championship ambitions.
