Leeds United’s Ao Tanaka: Ready to Rise Against Sheffield United?

Leeds United’s Ao Tanaka might find it tough as the clocks are running out on the preparations before the Friday night showdown against Sheffield United. Having played the entire 90 minutes for Japan in their 1-1 stalemate with Australia, Tanaka will subsequently have to endure a 16 hour flight back to Leeds therefore, there is little time left to rest for the Championship fixture.

Leeds also has injury concerns as they prepare to face another team closing in on the promotion zones. The club intends to check on the well-being of Tanaka after his release from national service. Tanaka, as per Yorkshire Evening Post has not been ruled out of taking part in Daniel Farke’s last practice before the fixture. The assistant coaches will check on him, but so far the prognosis is that Tanaka will most probably get medical clearance to play.

This summer, Tanaka came to Leeds aware that he needed to work on some aspects of his game. His will to work harder has also been inspired by fellow Japanese players Hidemasa Morita and Wataru Endo, who have both played well. He is, however, on the other hand, keen on improving his defensive aspect of the game and said, “I can feel it not only from players in the same position as me but even from players of other positions like me.”

With the important battle of Sheffield approaching, Tanaka also looks forward to honing his skills in a highly competitive environment like English football. “I’m looking forward to seeing how much I can grow,” he said, perhaps with his eyes looking firmly into the future. Leeds fans will want to see a ready and a roiling Tanaka as they fight for precious points in their promotion drive.
